My journey into bento lunch boxes
In: General
4 Nov 2008When I bought these cute egg shapers for my hard boiled eggs, I was very new to preparing bento lunches. So, bento gadgets were very new to me. A reader or two had also expressed an interest in seeing how these egg shapers work and what the egg would look like. So, I decided to make up this little tutorial.

Step 1 – Boil a medium-large egg until it is hard boiled. Peel off the shell.
Step 2 – While hot/warm, place the egg into the egg shaper standing up i.e. the egg should be pointed side up.
Step 3 – Cover the egg with the other half of the shaper and press down until the container can click closed. Leave aside to cool.
Step 4 – Open up the shaper. Your egg should now be shaped!
I’ve found that a medium to large egg works best because a smaller egg might not fit the shape fully resulting in a misshapen egg. Also, if you are planning to slice the egg in half, your knife should be sharp so you don’t spoil the shape. Mine isn’t quite so it isn’t as nice looking once sliced, but its cute anyway.
Enjoy!

I thought the same as Xin, haha. I thought you would crack the egg into the mold and I always wondered how it didn’t leak!? Haha!

Hi lali: Haha… it would be interesting if it was done that way. You can do that in a frying pan though

Can egg molds dual-task and create good onigiri?
