My journey into bento lunch boxes

Sorry for the silence!
Here’s a simple bento lunch I packed one morning. It had shredded leftover chicken breaston a bed of letttuce leaves. The pasta was leftover tuna pasta salad which I tossed into a pan and stirfried with an egg to heat and for bulk. Cherry tomatoes and a couple of cocktail sausages completed the set. It was surprisingly quite substantial!

22 Jan 2009I’ve been so busy at work and getting ready for the Chinese New Year I’ve seriously neglected posting up pictures of my bento lunches.
I will however be back after the festive break so don’t go away just yet!
Here’s wishing all Chinese readers Gong Xi Fa Cai and have a Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year!

I usually make my bento lunches on the fly, but this one took a little planning. I picked up some satay (grilled skewered meats) from what has to be the best satay stall in Kuala Lumpur one evening in preparation for the next day’s lunch.
In the morning, I re-heated the satay sticks (beef and chicken) and cut off the long ends of the bamboo skewers to fit my lock n lock lunch box. Then, I set the satay on a bed of white rice, and served it with fresh greens and tomatoes and a hard boiled egg. The spicy peanut sauce was ladled over the satay before I closed the box but that did not make a good picture – it made an absolutely delicious lunch though!

The wonders one does with leftovers! This bento lunch came from some leftover tuna pasta salad. There wasn’t much so I substantiated it with some fried chicken pieces that came from a frozen pack. I try not to use processed food where possible, but sometimes you can’t avoid the convenience.
There were no greens so I added some mini plum tomatoes and 2 tangerines for fibre.
This was one of the first bento I did in 2009. I’m slowly learning to make better looking bento and I have some new bento accessories so I can’t wait to share more this year! Happy New Year everyone!
